New and Old representatives attended a training workshop on Monday to learn about GSO and the duties of being a department representative.

  • What is the GSO?

  • What are my responsibilities as GSO Representative?
    • Representatives must attend all meetings.
      • The GSO meets three times during each of the Fall and Spring Semesters and once during the Summer Semester.
      • If a representative misses a meeting, NO ONE FROM HIS OR HER DEPARTMENT CAN BE CONSIDERED FOR GSO FUNDING AT THAT MEETING OR AT THE NEXT MEETING (See bylaws Section One).
      • Representatives may enlist a proxy representative to fill in for them if they are unable to attend a meeting.
    • Representatives are responsible for ensuring that applications from their departments are complete prior to submission.
    • Representatives are responsible for keeping the graduate students in his or her department up to date on GSO matters, as well as university matters that pertain to or involve graduate students.
    • Representatives are responsible for informing the GSO of the thoughts and concerns that students in your department may have
    • Representatives should be familiar with application procedures in order to assist students in the application process and to ensure that submitted applications meet all of the listed requirements.
    • Representatives are responsible for supplying GSO Applications to students in their departments.  These can be obtained from Counseling and Testing in Saucier Wellness Center.
    • Representatives are responsible for finding a successor and ensuring that they understand all of the above requirements.

        • 1 week before meeting

Common Application Mistakes to Avoid:

  • Dean Signature Missing – be sure to give the Dean plenty of time to sign an application and return to applicant
  • Do not Staple Application – bind all materials with a paperclip or small binder clip
  • Representative Signature missing – old applications are missing the signature line for representatives, please sign below applicant
  • Letterhead with Real Signature – copies and scanned letters are not accepted
